30
As most of you have probably heard by now Party took the limit off of the number of $30/$60 games they are spreading. I saw how many of them were going and decided to test the waters. I would have written about it sooner actually but I upgraded my server and had a lot of problems with it. Most of them are resolved now, except for my email which is still not working. Hopefully that will be back in a day or two.
The $30/$60 games are very good. They aren’t quite so fishy as the $15/$30s but they still seem like they are going to be very profitable. I was making $50 per hour per table at $15/$30, I'll guess my $30/$60 rate will be $80. That's merely conjecture of course since I have virtually no data yet, I'm just going by my feel of the game.
Actually my luck so far has been atrocious. I don’t think I've yet failed to lose to a 2 or 3 outer or a runner runner. These people are more aggressive than the $15/$30 players, both when they should be and when they shouldn’t, so the swings are going to be massive. These monkeys can't seem to pick up a draw without capping the flop and raising at least once on the turn. And lately they can't seem to miss said draw after I flop a set.
All of that, though causing me to be a small loser in the game so far, has served to make me very optimistic. I honestly didn’t think games at this level could be this good. The first time I sat down at a table the game didn’t seem bad but it didn’t really seem all that good either. Every game since has been much better, and I'm playing 4 at a time so I've seen a lot of them. Maybe I was just unlucky to fall into a bad table or maybe I just needed to adjust. Or maybe both.
It definitely did take some adjusting and I probably will have to do some more as I get used to their play. Like the $15/$30 players they all seem to make the same mistakes. They all play their draws too strong. I'm as big a fan as anyone of a little semi bluffing but when your opponent makes it clear that they have you beat and aren’t folding its time to take your foot off the gas.
They also love to slowplay top pair. I don’t know how many times I've seen someone call the flop with top pair weak kicker then pop the turn with it. Is that ever a good play? It sure doesn’t seem like it could be very often to me, especially since they seem to pop the turn regardless of how bad it is for them.
I think these people just love to be aggressive on the turn and take it way too far. Maybe it works well against bad players who can't make good decisions, since you are forcing them to think. Against good players being overaggressive on fourth steet is just going to cost you a fortune. Routinely putting in $180 with flush draws against two pair with one card remaining is going to put a huge dent in your roll.
I will give them some credit though, they do a number of things better than the $15 players. They seem to be able to resist the urge to make big bluffs at every single pot. At the $15 games anymore you don’t even worry when you get check-raised on the turn while holding top pair. You just call it down and more often than not it's good. Hell, a lot of the time you threebet them.
They also do more raising and less calling preflop and are a bit tighter. And when they flop a strong hand they are much more likely to just go ahead and pound it. Other than that their postflop play seems to be as bad as if not worse than the $15 players but those things they do better go a long way.
So even though my luck so far has been atrocious I am in very good spirits. I am enjoying playing with these monkeys and looking forward to cashing some obscene amount out of these tables. You couldn’t really ask for more than unlimited $30/$60 tables on Party Poker.
