Errata
Unbeknownst to me payed is actually a word, but only in the sense:
7 : to slacken (as a rope) and allow to run out -- used with out
(Merriam Webster)
It is incorrect to say "I payed you $5", but it would be correct to say "The rope was payed out". Apparently Microsoft Word didn't even know that.
P.S., in the future use Merriam Webster. Dictionary.com is written by Chef Boyardee.
