Neglect
Wow has this blog been neglected. If it were a girlfriend, she'd be sleeping with my best friend by now.
I've been busy. Crazy busy. This summer's been a whirlwind, as those who read my other blog know. I got married, stayed in Cambridge all summer working on the business (which I think you'll like) and have spent the last couple weeks talking to potential investors. Things are looking pretty good for the company.
I missed the WSOP, and most of my friends said I didn't miss much. I would have liked to play in the main event, but I guess there's always next year. I can't even remember the last time I played poker.
Pretty soon I'll likely be living in San Francisco, or just south of it. Bay 101 is pretty close to the valley. I hear the $20/$40 games are amazing. Maybe I'll spend some time at the tables on the weekends.
It's good to see Neteller finally made good. That's a company whose demise I'm happy to see now. They got dealt a tough hand with the UIGEA and the founders' arrests, but they played it as badly as possible too. They've pretty much been a model of how not to treat customers when the shit hits the fan.
So, sorry about the long time with no posts. I'm debating what to do with this blog. I could keep stringing it along, posting whenever I have something poker-related to say (which might be a little more often going forward). I could redirect it to my other blog. I could just sell off the domain name, though I doubt anyone would want it. I could maybe bring in some other writers. I just don't know.
Any suggestions?

Hi Matt,
I always enjoy reading your poker blog, even if you don't post much. I wouldn't like it if you merged this with your non-poker blog; I probably would stop reading then. Maybe you can post some poker content which hasn't necessarily happened recently?
Hugo.

Nice to read from you again.
Although the relevance of poker to your life has fallen off drastically, and you'd probably be quite content to never get two-outered again, count me among those who selfishly hope that you'll gradually find your way back to the game and this blog. Over the past three years I've read a lot of poker writing, and, IMHO yours was consistently sharper, funnier and more insightful than 95% of the field.
San Francisco, eh? Funny coincidence. I'm a fellow northeast Ohioan (Green) planning a move to the Bay area in October -- although I'm leaning more towards Oakland. Northeast OH summers are pretty sweet, but I just can't do another winter here.
Re: The reportedly juicy games at Bay 101...
I'm probably not qualified to judge, as I'm just in my third year as a poker player and have only recently begun to win (slightly) more than I lose, but in my experience live games EVERYWHERE seem ridiculously fat compared to online competition.
Again, I haven't logged enough hands/hours to consider myself an authority on the subject. But I've consistently beaten live games -- especially 1/2 no-limit -- just about everywhere that I've played them, from Las Vegas Nights to Biloxi to Vegas to AC to riverboats in Iowa and Indiana. I cannot make that claim about online play.
Even at the low limits where I dwell, online players as a rule seem to me to be tighter, more aggressive, and tougher to read than live. Especially on Friday and Saturday nights in "resort" towns like Vegas, AC and New Orleans, when the alcohol flows freely and floods the tables with drunken maniacs.
What's your take on the subject?
